Is there a cheap device for reading ebooks?
I'm very tight on money, and I don't want any fancy devices like iphones, i touch, kindle from amazon. Are there any devices where I can upload ebooks as pdf files straight up, maybe through a USB port.

Yes, but they are somewhat cumbersome. Your laptop will do the trick, and they can be had at a snip these days. I feel the same way you do about the expense of it, but sometimes you just have to spend for what you want. Think of it, the Kindle 2 will hold 1,500 volumes, according to Amazon, and many of these are available for free from sites such as Project Gutenberg. Free access to Wiki. It may be expensive, but it is a decent value.

I’m not sure if it helps, but one of my friends is tight on money as well and I recommend her the refurbished Kindle 2 here:

She got it for around a month and she is using it without any problem. May be you can consider. Yes, it is really good to have the Kindle because you can get books at a cheaper rate, and Amazon is providing quite a lot of books free of charge. I remember I read these reviews when I decided to get my Kindle 2:
Hope it helps

I say the Kindle 2 too. It has a price drop recently (check the price at its homepage) so it is more affordable right now. You can read this review from a top reviewer, it outlines quite a lot of benefits of the Kindle device, and also how it is worth especially at the end of the review:
And here is the official information on how you can copy your own PDF files to the Kindle device:
BTW, there are some website like this one, where you can find more than 20,000 free books for the Kindle:
Hope this helps.

Why not just a cheap used PDA? It might not be as pretty as the Kindle, but it sure would be a whole lot cheaper.
