I would go for the Kindle DX - no regrets that way! I LOVE my Kindle 2, but I wish I had a DX. Here's an article I read before I got mine - I have it bookmarked on my computer... Maybe it will help you decide too :)

I'm a college student and a Kindle 2 owner. I've got a few of my textbooks on my Kindle and it really saved me some heavy weights :)

I love my Kindle 2, but I've seen Kindle DX and I love it too. One of my friends who is a girl uses Kindle DX, it doesn't seem to be too big even for girls, and I'm sure that reading with a larger screen helps me to read faster.

Since you're a boy, I think you don't need to worry about the portability of the reader, it is still handy even for girls. But you should cosider whether the extra cost worth for the bigger screen and native PDF support. If you expect you'll only read books from Amazon and will have little PDF to read, then just go for the Kindle 2. Otherwise, it is always good to give yourself flexibility for a more powerful device.

I recommend you to read this review, it should helps you decide which to go:

Hope it helps.

I'm a Kindle 2 owner and I like it very much. However, if I have the money I'll go for the Kindle DX for sure. The larger screen is definitely better for reading, and I know it will still be handy especially for boys.

I'll recommend you to read this review. It comes from user who has tried both the Kindle 2 and the Kindle DX:

For textbooks, trust me, there will be more and more available for the Kindle. You know, Amazon signed up contract with some big textbook publishers, which accounts for 60% of the textbook market. You can read more about this from my previous answer here:
